Regatta Weekend Review

Posted on Sep 27 2025 - 3:31pm

Troop 367 welcomed the AOL scouts from Pack 367 on our September camping trip at Camp Hart, Musser Scout Reservation. We stayed in our adopted site Dick Smith. It was a cozy weekend with scouts using every troop tent available.

Mr Schell and Ms Glenn worked with the AOL scouts and leaders prior to camp to make sure everyone was prepared and had a clear picture of what to anticipate on the trip. Once we arrived at camp Elise Schell and Patrick Altomari took over working with the AOL scouts and guiding them in tent set up and cooking together as a patrol.

Our SPL for the weekend was Gavin Burfield assisted by Emily Maldonado. They did a good job of giving direction to the Troop during set up and break down of camp. This particular site requires a little more effort in organizing and keeping scouts moving efficiently to get gear in and out of camp.

After set up and dinner on Friday night, we had a stray cat appear from under one of the adirondacks. This created lots of excitement amongst the scouts, as the cat roamed around looking for scraps of food. The scouts named the cat Snickers. Mrs Uhlig had her husband come to pick up the cat on Saturday to give it a home.

On Saturday, Troop 367 hosted our 3rd Cardboard Boat Regatta for the Continental District. It was a huge success! There were 15 patrols from 6 different units that participated in competing at 10 stations which focused on team building and scout skills.

It was a great day! The weather was gorgeous and everywhere you looked there were smiles. Patrols worked well together and enjoyed themselves.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to all of our leaders who helped run stations. Troop 367 leaders managed 7 of the 10 stations for this event. Mr Schell and Ms Glenn are working to recruit more help from other Troops. It takes a small army to run a successful event like this and we are blessed with the amount of active leaders in Troop 367. We appreciate all of you.

For the 2nd year in a row Pack 367's AOL patrol held the fastest time in the main event - Mushroom Cup (the boat race). Congratulations to the Rock Stabbers who made it across the lake and back in 8 minutes and 31 seconds!

There were 3 Troops (T367, T108 and T36) that participated in the leaders race bracket this year. The shoreline was filled with scouts cheering for their leaders as they paddled across the lake. The leaders race required them to do 2 laps and the leaders were given the option to switch out with another leader for the 2nd lap.

Mr Altomari led the building of the leaders boat this year. He raced the 1st lap with Mrs Sharp, and the 2nd lap with Mr Liebel. They won the leaders bracket with Troop 36 leaders giving them some competition. Everyone enjoyed themselves watching the leaders bracket and we hope to see more leader boats on the water next year.

There were 5 patrols that made it to the Survivors bracket for the scouts. Both of the AOL patrols from Pack 367 and Frozen Phoenix participated in the Survivors race. The leaders all agreed Kelsey Schell was the MVP of the race when her patrols boat (Stick-O Butter) got stuck and she jumped out of the boat and pulled her patrol mate across the lake.

The scouts really stepped up their game this year designing boats to look like Kart Racers. We can't wait to see what designs they come up with next year for the Viking theme.

Frozen Phoenix patrol came in 3rd place for the overall event with a total score of 751 points. Every patrol in our troop either won or placed at many of the stations. All of the scouts who participated should be proud of themselves.

After the event, everyone returned to our campsite to start dinner preparations. The Troop ended the night with a campfire and the scouts took turns performing skits.

It was a great weekend! The Troop looks forward to the AOL scouts joining us in March.

On September 14th, the scouts went down to Camp Hart to prepare our adopted campsite, Dick Smith, for our Cardboard Boat Regatta. The scouts were very productive! They painted the latrine, cleaned up campfire pit and tidied up the trails. Thank you to all the scouts and leaders that helped out!
